Jacqueline Woodson is, of course, the incomparable, National Book Award-winning writer of important and beloved books for adults, children, and everyone in between. She has served as our Young People’s Poet Laureate and was named the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature by the Library of Congress. And I am thrilled that her newest book is our Onward Book Club’s first young adult selection.
REMEMBER US is set in 1970s Brooklyn and tells the story of rising 7th grader Sage, who is, like her neighborhood of Bushwick, in a moment of transition. Living with the constant anxiety and threat of arson, Sage finds friendship and a basketball partner in Freddy, the new boy, and together they work through it: change, loss, community, fear, growth. And because it was written by Jacqueline Woodson, it is all stunningly, beautifully told.
So please get your hands on REMEMBER US, and then meet Jacqueline Woodson and me on Instagram for a live conversation on June 11th at 7pm ET.
